- Q - Bramble Smash
- W - Twisted Advance
- E - Sapling Toss
- R - Nature's Grasp
Max in the following order: Q > W > E, taking R whenever available.
Maokai - General Playstyle:
Laning Phase: Use your E (Sapling Toss) to zone enemies and provide vision in bushes. Engage with W (Twisted Advance) followed by Q (Bramble Smash) for crowd control. Use your passive to heal up after trades.
Mid Game: Roam and help secure objectives. Use saplings for vision and zone control. Engage or peel for your team using W and Q.
Late Game: Stick with your team. Use your ultimate during team fights for massive crowd control. Peel for your carries and lock down enemy threats.
Maokai Farming
As a support, you shouldn't be farming minions. Instead, rely on your support item (Steel Shoulderguards) to gain gold. However, if you find yourself in a lane alone, last-hit minions to not waste resources.
Maokai Team Fights:
Engage with W or peel for your carries.
Use Q to disrupt enemy formations and cancel dashes.
Drop E in choke points or bushes for zone control.
Use R as a follow-up engage or to peel for your team.
Dragon and Baron fights as Maokai:
Dragon/Baron: Use saplings for vision around the pit. Engage or peel as necessary. Use R to zone enemies or secure the objective.
Maokai - Matchups:
Good Matchups: Champions that rely on dashes or are susceptible to crowd control.
Bad Matchups: Champions that can poke from a distance or can easily disengage from Maokai.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths: Strong crowd control, good sustain, excellent zone control with saplings, and tanky.
Weaknesses: Can be poked down, reliant on team for damage, and can be kited.
Maokai - Additional Tips:
Use saplings in bushes for the empowered effect.
Use W to dodge crucial enemy abilities since it makes you untargetable.
The knockback direction of Q is based on where you aim it.
The movement speed of saplings depends on the type of boots you have.
